Accountabilities
The Social Worker Should:
- Conduct interviews with Youths and adolescents at the Youth Centre to assess their situations with regards to child protection and other issues affecting their well-being in emergencies.
- Complete case management of vulnerable or affected Youths and adolescents and initiate any referral where necessary.
· Ensure that youths and adolescents
are safe within the youth centre perimeters and well equipped with life-skills,
and are helped to change where necessary through sharing of information and
providing guidance and counselling as well.
· Give professional leadership to
youths and adolescents in collaboration with other qualified practitioners to
ensure effective provision of services that are gender sensitive and age
appropriate.
· Provide recommendations on the
best course of action for particular service for youths and adolescents in
emergency settings.
· Liaise with the youth centre
coordinator and make referrals to other agencies and sectors where applicable,
· Plan and facilitate the Life
skills training conducted at the centre.
· Maintain records for youths and
adolescents attending at the youth centre, issues raised, referrals initiated,
and produce reports on a weekly and monthly basis.
· Support Plan staff with other
reporting / monitoring activities when necessary,
- Help facilitate community sensitization and mobilization with the youth centre Coordinators.
· Complete new registrations of the
youths and adolescents attending at the youth centre.
· Complete daily attendance list of
the youths and adolescents attending various programs at the centre.
· Carry out case management and PSS
activities in coordination with case management and PSS social workers.
· Perform 1-2-1 counselling and
complete the incident reports.
· Ensure that the Youth centre is
clean and well-organized,
· Submit new registrations and daily
attendance to Youth centre coordinator,
· Daily management of the Incentive
workers, vocational training instructors and music and theatre instructors
working at the youth centre.
· Provide input into Youth centre
Case Studies and other program activities.
Dealing with Problems:
The position involves resolving a
wide range of challenges which occur in managing different people with
different background and culture. The position holder will be required to demonstrate
attributes such as being honest and trustworthy, respectful, possess cultural
awareness and sensitivity, be flexible and demonstrate sound work ethics. S/he
will demonstrate the ability to solve problems, be creative while providing
support and implementing project activities.
Key relationships
At field office the post holder will
work closely with the emergency team staff and mostly with Youth Centre
Coordinators.
Skills specific to the post:
- Participatory planning and monitoring, Understanding of emergencies with basic technical knowledge of child protection, WASH and EiE
- Proficient in team building and community work
- Use a rights-based approach in child protection
- Good written and oral communication skills in English and Swahili. Knowledge of French and Kirundi is desirable
- Community mobilization, problem solving skills and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment
- Proficient in computer skills and ability to work under stress and in stressful environments
Technical expertise, skills and
knowledge
- Degree in sociology, psychology, social work or related field International Development, Social Science or related field or significant relevant work experience
- At least 2 year’s working experience in a similar role with a good awareness of current issues in the field of development, emergencies and familiarity with children’s issues in particular
- Experience in facilitating the implementation and monitoring of community managed projects with an NGO environment and computer literate.
